The Darkness That Enveloped

The Darkness That Enveloped

Darkness enveloped my mind. A storm formed over open water. Except I wasn’t looking from the shore. I was the small boat and looked up above at the black clouds swirling above. Wondering how did I get here. Wondering how I would get out.

Darkness enveloped my heart. Knife pointed at my sternum. Pressed against my chest. The sharp point kissing my skin. Heart reaching forward yearning for the release of unbridled pain.

Darkness enveloped my body. Diseased and weakened. Frail and confused. Wandering about looking for strength. Hiding under the covers, in the closet, under the tapestry of fear.

A light entered. First in my mind. Then in my heart. And then finally, in my body. A light that shone so bright that the darkness ran away. This light shined on all the strength that was hidden by the darkness. A reminder of the path that led me to this darkness.  And to this light. A light to remind of the strength hidden beneath. And that the darkness was only temporary. As is everything in this precious life.
